The second Paranormal Activity movie features a family which sets up security cameras to investigate a series of 'break-ins,' but upon watching the recordings discovers something far more sinister is going on.
#13: The Amityville Horror (1979) $86.4 Million3 of 16
The oldest movie on our countdown actually did better in the box office than its 2005 remake (only grossed $65 million). In the story - which is based on actual events - a couple newlyweds discover a murder took place in their new home, and strange things begin to happen which drive them away.

#12: Saw 2 (2005) - $87 Million4 of 16
The Saw horror franchise took skin-crawling horror to a new level, and this installment features several unlucky people trying to escape a house of horrifying booby traps and puzzles. You'll need a strong stomach for this one folks.
#11: Scream 3 (2000) - $89.1 Million5 of 16
The 3rd Scream movie stretches the story to a new level of flimsyness as this time the killer slashes teens on the set of a movie, "Stab 3." Really? That's the best plot they could come up with?
#10: The Haunting (1999) - $91.2 Million6 of 16
Afwul remake about a bunch of people participating in a sleep study in a haunted old mansion. Starring Owen Wilson, Liam Neeson, and Catherine Zeta-Jones...they should be haunted by how much this movie sucked.
#9: The Others (2001) - $96.5 Million7 of 16
A woman living in a scary old house with her two children thinks that they might not be the home's only inhabitants. If you're looking for a horror movie that is actually a decent film, give The Others a watch.
#8: Scream 2 (1997) - $101 Million8 of 16
Taking place two years after Scream, a new psychopath dons the costume and continues the killing spree. Spoiler alert: if you don't want to know who survives the first movie, ignore the picture above.
#7: Scream (1996) - $103 Million9 of 16
In one of the most parodied horror flicks of all time, a killer known as Ghostface starts to kill off teenagers.
The original is usually the best...at least that's the case in the Scream horror franchise.

Another entry in the very sucessful Paranormal Activity franchise; this time its two young sisters who are affected by the mysterious 'entity.'

The first (and many claim the best) in the Paranormal Activity franchise. Same basic premise: suburban couple, demonic spirit, a bunch of creepy things happen, you get the idea...
#4: The Grudge (2004) - $110 Million12 of 16
An American nurse in Tokyo uncovers a mysterious curse that locks the victim in a powerful rage before taking their life and claiming another host. Sarah Michelle Gellar stars in a less-than-Oscar-worthy performance.
#3: The Ring (2002) - $129 Million13 of 16
A mysterious video cassette surfaces which apparently causes the death of anyoine who watches it within a week. Very scary movie. You'll never watch a VHS again.
#2: The Conjuring (2013) - $137 Million14 of 16
A paranormal investiagtion team attempts to help a family plagued by a dark presence in their farmhouse. This one will make you jump out of your seat. Over and over again.
#1: The Blair Witch Project (1999) - $141 Million15 of 16
Three film students disappear after venturing into the woods of Maryland with the intention of making a documentary about a local Blair Witch legend...only their film footage was found. Not the scariest movie on our list but definitely original and worth a watch.
